#10: One framework and two non-marketing reads👇
These three things made me think and grow this week.
Hey all,
Sharing three mind-stretching, hustle-growing reads this week. Each of them made me think a lot, be a better marketer, and understand the world in new ways.
Next week we have an interview with a founder whose company was just acquired by Miro. They had an unusual experience with SEO that ultimately made them unbeatable on Google. We’ll dive into what they did and how you can do the same.
Until then, have a lovely week.

simplifying marketing strategy
Last week, in the Zero to Marketing newsletter, Andrea shared this framework. I love things that make complex things simple and I don’t think you can get more simple than this.
If you’re the first marketer at a new company, working through this list can guide your strategy for years. Instead of running around like a headless chicken (been there), your challenges become:
Stage 1: ‘how can I scale SEO?’
We dealt with these question in episode 31 with Nick Jordan.
Stage 2: ‘how can I create demand on social media?’
We dealt with this question in episode 3 with Chris Walker, episode 18 with Casey Graham, and episode 30 with Nemanja Zivkovic.
Stage 3: ‘how can I create content that converts?’
We covered high converting, high revenue-generating eBooks with both Ian luck and Tom Bangay.
Finally: ‘how can I optimise ad spend?’
We touched on this in multiple episodes, for example with Michael Norris and Danny Gavin.
Anything you can do as a marketer to make things EASY is a huge win.
growing as a person
Here are two things to wrestle with this week. Be kind to yourself.
people come alive when they’re serious about what they love
"If you tolerate too much half-heartedness, it’s probably because you’re half-hearted. As in: anxious and ambivalent, looking for reassurance. As in: bored, along for the ride, not really sure about your own feelings and opinions. As in: external locus of control vs internal locus of control. You probably don’t have anything in your life that really tethers you to yourself—you don’t have conviction about what you love, so you’re hoping that someone else will provide you that certainty. I think that people come alive when they’re serious about what they love—when they choose to pay careful attention to what feeds and sustains them."
—How to avoid half-heartedness
give respect, to get respect
"All you have to do, if you want everything in life from everybody else, is first pay attention; listen to them; show them respect; give them meaning, satisfaction, and fulfilment. Convey to them that they matter to you. And show you love them. But you have to go first. And what are you going to get back? Mirrored reciprocation."

P.s. I give everything away for free. But, if you think I deserve it, you can ‘buy me a beer’ right here (i.e. donate $5).
